Retin-A is one of the best medicines of the external application for the acne treatment. It contains an active ingredient Tretinoin.
Retin-A (Tretinoin) has a unique pharmacological action. It stimulates a regeneration of horny layer and epidermis. Due to the intense renewal of epidermis, it is possible to clean the skin of acne and other skin defects.
Tretinoin is a synthetic (synthesized in the laboratory) analogue of Vitamin A which executes a function of the skin regeneration and keeping it in a good state. Retin-A acts to both closed, and open acne. It accelerates a maturation of the closed comedones due to which they faster become red and open. Then, they are deleted physically.
Due to the renewal of epidermis and horny layer, the upper layer of the skin is regularly cleaned. All blackheads and spots from the inflammatory pimples are gone, and the skin color is improved. The intense regeneration of the upper layers of the skin makes it firmer, and most wrinkles are smoothed (if these are not deep age-related wrinkles).
The effect of Retin-A can occur in a couple of weeks or months but it will definitely happen.

Uses and doses
Retin-A can be bought without prescription, but it is needed to read an instruction for the use and follow all precautions.
Retin-A is released in the form of cream/gel for the external application. It should be used every day, till achieving the required result, but not more than 3-4 months. You can buy Retin-A in any medical form because the therapeutic characteristics of the medicines do not depend on that.
It is better to use cream after taking a shower/bathtub, when the skin is soft and better absorbs any creams. Retin-A cream is applied once per day, before going to bed, only to the affected parts of the skin with inflammation. Do not rub the cream/gel because it is easily absorbed.
In 6-7 hours after the application of Retin-A to the skin, it is necessary to rinse with water and remove all medicine. The prolonged contact of the cream with the skin can develop an allergic reaction.
Patients whose skin is sensitive or light should not use Retin-A for a long time. At first, the medicine is left for 30-45 minutes, and then for 60-90 minutes, and this way the period is increased to make the skin get used to the medicine.
The therapeutic effect appears in 2-3 weeks and is gradually improved.
- During the use of the cream/gel Retin-A, it is necessary to avoid a direct effect of the ultraviolet/sun lights to the skin
- Using the medicine, it is necessary to maximally restrict the use of the cosmetic products which dry out the skin. The skin needs an additional moisturizing during the treatment.
The standard side effects which appear during the use of Retin-A are tingling, burning, redness, itching, peeling and dryness of the skin, mild swelling of places of the medicine application. These side effects are caused by the action of Retin-A and usually pass within 2-3 weeks.
After the first week of using the medicine, the acne symptoms may be increased. This is a process of the active action to the closed acne, and therefore the treatment should not be stopped. The skin will be soothed and become better within a week.
